Friday, August 1

K'NAAN is the first performance we saw at Lollapalooza. They were very interesting. After this we saw The Black Lips who were a little disappointing. The day looked up after this though when we went to a minor stage and saw Manchester Orchestra (top right) who was great. We saw several more acts throughout the day including Gogol Bordello, The Raconteurs, and some of Louis XIV. As soon The Raconteurs played "Steady as She Goes" all of the Radiohead fans left. Unfortunately we left to see Radiohead (bottom right) about two songs later. After waiting about a quater mile from the stage for half an hour they started to play. Being the only band headlining that night meant the crowd was enormous. A band like Radiohead does not work well for me in large crowds. Most of the time was spent looking at the people who climbed the speaker towers . We left early from Radiohead to go see Brand New play with Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine at the House of Blues. What I saw of Kevin Devine was good, Manchester Orchestra was amazing and Brand New put on a great show. It was an amazing concert even though I was exausted from Lollapalooza. It was a great first day of Lollapalooza. Unfortunately the Bloc Party concert tonight with Cansei de Ser Sexy and Does it Offend You, Yeah? at the House of Blues is sold our so we cannot go. We will have to find something else to do after Rage Against the Machine/ Wilco tonight

Friday Morning

This is the view from our hotel last night just before going to bed. We got up at 9am so we could get some breakfast at Caribou Coffee. We have a long day ahead of us: Lollapalooza starts and tonight we are going to the Brand New concert with Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine at the House of Blues. Another post tonight when we get back from the concert if we can catch the elusive internets!

Dinner Day 1

Chicago deep-dish pizza, very cheesy

The End of Day 1 (Thursday)

Going to bed past 4:45 am (see right) was not the best idea. I had to get up at 6:50 am leaving me with less than two hours of sleep after a long day at Warped Tour on only 5 hours of sleep. We left early and got on the road just past 8:20. Setting some land speed records (A.K.A. Central Time) we got past Indiannapolis and stopped in Lafayette for some char-broiled Burger King. Going for the king size was myself, Adam, and Russell. Typical Kyle gets his kids menu which comes with sweet ping pong game. We make it to Chicago in just over 5 1/2 hours. I will update again tomorrow. Pictures will be uploaded soon too.

We got to Chicago and checked out Grant Park. After ducking into Caribou Coffee to avoid the rain we took a stroll down Michigan Avenue. We met some interesting characters and some unforgettable events. We went into the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue and posted the first official blog for our four day excursion. More to come as our journey continues.
